The Final Eight
On a brilliant, sunny afternoon on February 13, 2010, Chapter 0049, family and friends, gathered at the San Diego County Veterans Museum & Memorial Center in Balboa Park, San Diego, CA, to inscribe the final eight names on the Purple Heart Monument. The Monument now holds the names of 156 Purple Heart patriots who answered the call to defend their country and shed their blood during their defense of the United States of America. There is no higher calling among patriots than the duty to respond to the call to defend our country.
In the speech before the gathered Patriots, friends and family, Commander U. Miller pointed to the fact that “…these patriots have exhibited and met the call laid down by General George Washington from Newburgh-on-the-Hudson, in the state of New York to the sunny shores of San Diego, California. The call has been consistent and the response has been answered in a bold and strong voice: ‘HERE SERGEANT – READY FOR DUTY.’ May the call and response be ever consistent throughout time and eternity.” (Excerpt from Cmdr. Miller’s remarks).
“HERE SERGEANT – READY FOR DUTY.”
