ABOUT US

“The road to glory in a patriot army and a free country is thus open to all.” ~ George Washington, 1782

This Chapter was named after First Sergeant Henry G. Jones, better known as “Sunny Jones” to his family and friends. Born January 24, 1886, he married Ms. Inez B. Jones of San Diego, CA and joined the Marine Corp. He was killed in action in 1918 during the Battle of Blanc Mont, France, while serving as the 1st Sergeant of the 97th Company, Sixth Regiment, 2nd U.S. Infantry Division, AEF.

WHO WE ARE

The Principles, Objects & Practices that Guide Us

A chapter may be formed by the authority of the National Commander on the application of not less than 12 Purple Heart recipients who are members in the Military Order of the Purple Heart of the USA, Inc.

  • Principles

The principles underlying the Corporation are patriotic allegiance to the United States of America, fidelity to its Constitution and laws, the security of civil liberty, and the permanence of free institutions. Through this organization and our membership in it, we hope to be able to preserve and perpetuate those ideals of liberty, justice, and the general welfare which are the very foundation of our way of life.

  • Objects

The objects of the Corporation are Educational, Fraternal, Historical, and Patriotic, perpetuating the principles of liberty and justice which have created the United States of America. These objects may be carried out in various ways, notably by active engagement in service to and support of veteran community projects. Chapter 49 has a very successful fundraising profile and contributes thousands of dollars to the community every year. We also volunteer and participate in many community events.

  • Practices

At each chapter meeting of the Sunny Jones Chapter, allegiance to the 4 Objects are held in high esteem. The Chapter Commander reiterates the principles of “education,” “fraternal,” “historical,” and “patriotism.” The office of Senior Vice Commander affirms our duty by defining and amplifying the Object of Patriotism. The office of Junior Vice Commander affirms our duty by defining and amplifying the Object of Fraternity. The office of Chaplain defines and explains the Objects of Historical and Educational.
